Mayo Ideas Week 2020 - Monday 21st to Friday 25th September 2020

Mayo Economic Recovery Plan Launch
Mayo Arts Office events

Now in its 11th year, Mayo Ideas Week is series of idea generation, entrepreneurship and business events hosted by the enterprise development agencies and organisations in County Mayo.

As with most things this year, Mayo Ideas Week 2020 will look a bit different to previous years.  The COVID-19 shock to the local economy is without historical precedent. The impact in Mayo has been highly significant with businesses closed, workers let go or placed on the Temporary Wage Subsidy Scheme, and economic confidence undermined. Research by the NWRA has indicated that 2,881 commercial units (49.7% of the total) in Mayo are operating in sectors likely to be worst affected by Covid-19.  These sectors include tourism, accommodation and food services, and personal service businesses. These activities engage directly with the public, will be among the last to re-open and are unable to shift to online or remote delivery.  Smaller businesses are also likely to be more affected.

In early June, the agencies with responsibility for enterprise support and economic development in Mayo came together and formed the Mayo Economic Recovery Forum with the objective of agreeing a 12-month plan comprised of an agreed range of priority initiatives underpinned by a determination that the efforts of all agencies would be co-ordinated to increase effectiveness. The plan outlines twelve initiatives and areas of focus agreed by the participating agencies.  Each year Mayo Ideas Week provides a platform that showcases innovation, explore new ideas and share experiences amongst entrepreneurs, as well as provide information on available supports for businesses and this year will be no different. A key initiative of the Mayo Economic Recovery Plan is the delivery a blended/virtual Mayo Ideas Week that focuses on the key themes of the plan.

The listings for 2020 is available on this link.  We welcome feedback, so please feel free to contact event organisers with any comments or suggestions.

Mayo Ideas Week is an initiative of the Nuálann Mhaigheo / Mayo Ideas Lab collaborative project, which was established by the development and enterprise support agencies to support innovation and idea generation in Co. Mayo.

Every year we showcase successful innovators, and highlight the supports available to help Mayo businesses to innovate.

Our events are designed to give entrepreneurs and potential entrepreneurs the space to explore new ideas, and share experiences with other start-ups and businesses in Mayo.

There is also an opportunity to connect with agencies supporting enterprise to see how they might be able to help you to get your ideas off the ground.
